A Nigerian man have been declared wanted by the US FBI after he fled to Nigerian after pleading guilty to romance scams. The man identified as Ugo “Caesar” Anele who used to work Atlanta and still got family there is believed to have fled to his country of origin Nigeria after he pleaded guilty to multiple romance scams leveled against him.
Romance scam is one of the most leading fraudulent acts in the world currently, they mostly target the old aged people who desperately needs companions, build trust with them, show them care and execute their plan of ripping them off their savings when the time is right. Recently a Nigerian man was jailed for 88 months for having 25 bank accounts and leading multiple romance scams accumulating to a whooping $3.4m.
According to the special agent of the FBI, Ugo Caesar was to serve a prison sentence of three years and pay his victims an amount of $1m as restitution, however he fled from the country and cannot he found, however according to the investigation is it believed that, he fled to his country of origin Nigeria and he is seeking refuge there. He further added that, he fled to Nigerian under a fake name not his actual name.
"The same week that he was supposed to report to prison, he fled to Nigeria using someone else's name, We know that he's in Nigeria - in Lagos, Nigeria - and we're looking for information about his exact whereabouts," he said.
The search continues and the law enforcement agencies have asked anyone with direct informations about Ugo Caesar should contact the nearest FBI office or American embassy as well as the consulate for his immediate arrest.
Social media users reacted to the news, and urged their fellow citizens to help assist the right authorities in locating the whereabouts of Ugo Caesar.
