Roy Keane, a former Manchester United and Manchester City midfielder, advised Manchester City to "relax" despite recent allegations made by the Premier League.
This week, City was charged with 115 financial code violations by the Premier League, and the club might face a number of penalties.
They will contest the accusations, with the club adamant that they are not responsible for any of the claims.
And on Friday, Guardiola fought back in his first media appearance since the shocking discoveries on Monday.
However, Keane urged City to concentrate on winning games since he believed they would face punishment if discovered in violation of the regulations.
"In general, I believe most players I know are extremely egotistical... they only want to concentrate on the performance of the team,"When asked by Sky Sports about the allegations and the potential impact on players, he responded.
Clearly, they are in a contract dispute.
From Man City's perspective, Pep's media response will have pleased the fans since he did come out fighting.
"If Man City is innocent, everyone may rest."
Pep should unwind because everyone is getting tense and Man City needs to return to focusing on winning football games.
I believe that from the perspective of the locker room, if you were a player there today heading into this match against Villa, you would believe that your sole emphasis would be on defeating Aston Villa.
It's fairly obvious that you must be penalized if they are found guilty.
Pep, as he stated in that article, "He's obviously referring to people above him — the chairman, the CEO, and those that manage the club — he said they've assured him they're innocent, so just get on with it."
When the matter is resolved, Gary Neville predicts that one of Manchester City or the Premier League's reputations will suffer.
The former United right-back predicted that "there will be a significant loser here."
If the allegations aren't successful, "The Premier League will be judged to be incompetent," and "if the charges are successful, it will ruin the last 10 years for many people."
Before City's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, the Premier League song was booed by City supporters, displaying their rage.
At the Etihad, they also unfurled a new banner in favor of the attorney defending them from the 115 accusations.
In reference to the club's attorney, Lord David Pannick KC, the banner read: "Pannick on the streets of London."
