This article is focused on the profile and achievements of Atsu. To the rest of the world, he is just a footballer, but to us Ghanaians, He is our Ghanaian Messi; to those he paid medical bills for, he was their helper in time of need; to those he helped get acquitted from the prisons, he was their unsung hero who delivered them from captivity; and to the countless lives that depend on him for survival, this is indeed a difficult moment. We hope and pray for positive news soon.

Christian Atsu Twasam, commonly known as Christian Atsu, is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Hataspor in the Turkish Super League and has retired from international football.

He was born on January 10, 1992, in Ada Foah, Ghana. Atsu began his football career with the local club, Cheetah, before moving to Feyenoord Academy in Ghana. He was soon scouted by international clubs and eventually signed with Porto in Portugal.

Atsu made his professional debut for Porto in 2010. He was loaned out to Rio Ave in the 2011/12 season. After returning to Porto, he quickly established himself as a talented player, earning several awards and accolades, including the Portuguese Primeira Liga Player of the Month award in November 2011. In 2013, his outstanding performances earned him a five-year contract with Chelsea.

However, Atsu was unable to secure a regular place in the starting lineup and spent several seasons on loan at other clubs, including Vitesse, Bournemouth, Everton, Malaga, and Newcastle United. It was during his loan spell at Newcastle United that Atsu truly shone, impressing fans and coaches alike with his pace, dribbling skills, and versatility on the pitch.

In 2017, Atsu's loan spell at Newcastle United was made permanent, and he has since become a key player for the club, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2017-18 season. He has since established himself as a regular in the starting lineup and has been praised for his energy, work ethic, and commitment to the team.

After making his debut against Lesotho at the Baba Yara Stadium, he went on to make 69 appearances for the Ghana Black Stars, scoring 9 goals.

He was the Player of the Year at Vitesse and was adjudged the Player of the Tournament at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
