There are a lot of problems with this Liverpool team but at the moment no one is talking about some of the issues that confuse me. Liverpool desperately need players in every position; I'm surprised how many players think Liverpool only need one or two players to get back to the top of English and European football. It's not true. That's not how rebuilding works.
I don't know if Liverpool will do that, but they should. Their starting midfield position is in very good hands. But, just talking about the beginners is not fair. Damn, there will come a time when one or both of them will start to get hurt, and it's not like they don't have a replacement. They do, but I don't think those alternatives are good enough.
Liverpool's starting centre-backs when all their players are healthy are Ibrahima Konate and Virgil Van Dijk. One of them is prone to injury, and the other one is really good but can also get injured sometimes.
Then you have Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. No offense to those two players, I think they've been playing very well at times and in some moments, but at this point their quality has dropped drastically from the players. starting to the reserves.
This is why Liverpool need a quality centre-back. That's not all they need, but it's one of the many things they need to stay competitive in English and European football. Look at Real Madrid's centre-backs. They have three big rookies in David Alaba, Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger, and a very good bench pick in Nacho Fernandez. They were the team that beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.

This is the team Liverpool face in the Champions League this season, and if they can improve their squad after winning Europe's biggest club competition, the Reds can too.
