Celebrated Ghanaian rapper and multiple award winner Michael Owusu Addo better known as Sarkodie finally makes a comment regarding the negativity surrounding his feature in the remix of the “Stir it up” performed by the legendary and late Bob Marley.
A few weeks ago, Sarkodie was in the news for getting to hop on the remix of “stir it up’ by Bob Marley and this was made possible by the management of Bob Marley’s estate. The aftermath of the feature was a bit disturbing as Sarkodie faced a lot of backlash and criticisms from his fellow industry colleagues about something he was to receive praises on.
A few of the people that made negative comments about the collaboration were entertainment pundit Mr Logic, Shatta wale, Ayisha Modi, Yaa pono and Blakk Rasta. Ayisha modi revealed in an interview that, Sarkodie was not suitable for the feature because he’s a rapper and not a reggae or dancehall artist.
The comment that gained the most attention was Blakk Rasta’s comment, he revealed that Sarkodie was a one way artist and he is highly disappointed in the Marlian family for belittling the legacy of the late Marley by featuring Sarkodie. After this comment he also faced a lot of backlash from industry colleagues such as Efya Nocturnal, Kwadwo Sheldon and Nana Aba Anamoah.
Sarkodie in an interview on Accra based YFM revealed that, at this stage of his career things like this do not get to him because it’s part of what he do. He further expressed that, those making negative comments about it are just doing so because they find it hard to believe.
“At this point in my career, such things do not get to me because it’s normal and it comes with the job” he said in an interview with Dj Mic Smith on the “Dryve of your life” show.
