A young man in his early 20�s has gotten himself to deal with the law after he was arrested on the basis of committing a $400 cybercrime. Tye young man identified as Olanrewaju Temitope was yesterday the 15th of February sentenced to 5 years in prison for $400 fraud crime.
The suspect was arrested and arraigned to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on one count of cybercrime. He was found guilty of the charges leveled against him and was sentenced to spen led five years in jail. The court sitting in Kaduna state presided over by Justice A.A Bello.
The spokesperson for the Econimic And Financial Crimes Commission narrating the charges revealed the following ;
"That you, Olanrewaju Temitope 'M',
sometimes between January, 2022 and July, 2022 in Kaduna, within the Judicial Division of this Honourable Court, dishonestly induced one Elexis McCrills on Instagram, to deliver to you the
sum of $400. When you portrayed yourself to be Lisa Marie Boothe (a female which you knew you were not) and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017, and punishable under Section 309 of the Same Law."
Justice A.A Bello after reading the charges found him guilty and sentenced him to five years imprisonment with as option to pay N100,000 as fine. In addition to this, the convict is leave the phone used in committing the cybercrime to the federal government of Nigeria.
The suspect was arrested from his hideout during one of the operations of the EFCC at Joel Bala street located in kaduna.
