According to a report, Arsenal are beginning to show an interest in a midfielder who will become the subject of Benfica's next big sale after Enzo Fernandez.

During the January transfer window, Benfica sold Fernandez to Chelsea in a record-breaking UK transfer deal. It is the latest bargain for the Portuguese side, who have made huge profits from the World Cup champion.

Some of their players have pursued fruitful careers elsewhere in recent years. Of course, while a transfer fee similar to that demanded by Fernandez is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon, there may still be other players willing to leave Benfica. Their leader, according to Goal sources, could be Florentino Luis. The 23-year-old has returned to the first team this season after a few loan spells.

Despite having a contract until 2027, Florentino could take the next step in his career sooner than expected, just as Fernandez did.

According to Goal, Arsenal and Liverpool have both conducted checks on the former Monaco loanee. News of Liverpool's interest is not entirely new as there were reports of them tracking Florentino back in October. But Arsenal appear to be new suitors for his signature as they also look to develop their midfield.

The Gunners began changing their options in this division during the January transfer window, when they welcomed Jorginho from Arsenal. Meanwhile, they sent Albert Sambi Lokonga to Crystal Palace on loan.

In addition to Lokonga still not really convinced at the Emirates, Arsenal's defensive midfielders will all turn 30 at the start of next season.

So they have to look to the future, which prompted them to consider players like Moises Caicedo in January. The lawsuit was unsuccessful, but it could be reconsidered this summer. Until then, Arsenal could also ramp up their interest in Declan Rice.

But it seems Florentino is another option that they want to keep an eye on.

Liverpool continue to interest Florentino Luis

Meanwhile, Liverpool failed to strengthen their midfield in January. In the summer, that will become a more pressing issue if James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all leave on free transfers. They left their options open, but again Florentino looked like someone in their sights.

According to Goal, he has been Benfica's most 'consistent' and 'reliable' midfielder this season. Indeed, he has yet to miss a single match for them.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, he may have the qualities Arsenal or Liverpool look for. What's not clear from the report is how much it could cost. Liverpool did business with Benfica this summer, when they brought in Darwin Nunez to strengthen the attack. Perhaps Florentino could be the next player they pursue from this destination.

Liverpool's demands may be greater than Arsenal's at the moment, although there are arguments on both sides. Florentino will have to carefully assess what could be the best next step for his career - including staying at Benfica.

But if he continues to play as he is, there will be plenty of options on the table for him.
