Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the now defunct UT bank have addressed issues of people blaming Ken Ofori Atta for the collapse of his company UT Bank 6 years ago.
UT bank was one of the many affected bank banks during the banking sector cleanup organized by the ruling party “New Patriotic Party” (NPP). After the cleanup, many blamed the finance minister Ken Ofori Atta as the master mind behind the cleanup and backlashed him for leaving many jobless.
Kofi Amoabeng speaking on GTV’s breakfast show revealed that, Ken Ofori Atta cannot be blamed too much for the cleanup exercise which led to the collapse of hard earned business UT BANK. According to him the decision was taken by the ruling party and its leaders and Ghanaians also gave them the mandate by voting them into power so Ghanaians should be the ones to be blamed not Ken Ofori Atta.
"When the UT bank went down, or the
government collapsed the bank, people came to
me and said, [so, your friend is Ken Ofori-Atta
and he took your bank] and I said 'no'”.
He further added that, he do not blame Ken Ofori Atta too much because he thinks, he was provided with documents and arguments to make that decision of the banking cleanup, and his decision was the best for Ghanaians even though he doubt it.
"I said listen, it is not Ken Ofori-Atta who I refer
to as my brother who collapsed the bank, it is
Ghanaians who collapsed that bank, because
Ghanaians chose the government. Ghanaians
chose the government that collapsed the bank and I cannot hate all Ghanaians because I'm a
Ghanaian myself. We voted for government, the
government came and made a decision”.
In his closing remark, he stated that, he do not think about it anymore because he don not know the cause of their actions.
