Ghanaian rapper born Kwame Nsiah Apau better known as Okyeame kwame has stirred up conversations on social media with a revelation he made about men in various relationships.
According to rapper he believes men in relationships should cater for the needs of their partners in the best way they can. Speaking in an exclusive interview on the Joy FM “Super morning show” he stated that, he would not allow his wife to take responsibility from him no matter how much he earns.
"We were all brought up in a socio-cultural
concept. And I have been socialised that even if
my wife is a trillionaire, I must give food, take
care of the children and be the one to provide for
the accommodation.
"So for me, that type of service is attached to my
ego, so if a woman is doing it for me, I will be
offended”.
He made this revelation while discussing the topic “ Do independent women expect men to be providers”. He revealed that, in particular a pure Akan home, a woman maybe earning much more than her husband but will still expect something small from her husband and is normal.
"Most women are programmed through their
parents to understand that a man must take care
of you. For instance, when an Akan woman is
getting married, she's told If you get any assets
or children bring it home, but if you obtain
liability send it to your husband's house.
"So this is the programming a woman has
received culturally, so once the woman is in that
relationship, and she's making lots of money, she
will still have that idea of expectation that a man
must provide for her needs”.
Over the years, there have been serious debates over these same topic. Most woman share their candid opinions and revealed that, a woman’s money she earns is her own money and a man’s money is for the family, the woman may chose to support the man in a little way she can but not necessarily her responsibility.
It is the man’s responsibility to fully cater for his mum.
