Kenyan senator identified as Gloria Orwoba was in the news a few days ago after she had her menstrual period whiles in parliament. A female parliamentarian asked the speaker to walk her since a woman in her period should not be welcome there.
Senator Gloria who felt offended by her colleagues words took the microphone and decided to defend herself, she stated that, she was on her way to parliament and never knew she was going to have her period, however she had it when she step in the premises. She further added that, she have now come to realize the reason for young girls taking their own lives because of “period stigma” which her colleague just demonstrated.
The issue generated a whole lot comments and a few are highlighted below;

something that is naturally occurring in our bodies, is the real tragedy. Menstruation is just evidence that sperm didn't fertilise the egg. It is simply a shedding of the uterine walls. It contains stem cells and other vital components that would have created life had the egg been fertilised. It is not unclean like religion would like you to believe. It is simply a normal process created by God, just like every other bodily function. Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery”.

“Some women have irregular period dates due to
stress, POS, infection etc. this has made it difficult for them to determine the days to expect
their periods. Even period leave will not work out
for them in their situation, cos they can see their
periods in December and not see it in January,
February, march, and in April the period will now
want to test your patience. So please stop mocking girls/women for seeing their periods or getting stained, rather help them out by nicely telling them that they are stained, you can aswear offer them a cloth like sweat shirts to cover up or tie around their waist. And as we try to be humane and show kindness, may God bless us all”.
