Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool boost before Real Madrid game

Real Madrid and Liverpool both have matches this weekend. Los Blancos host Osasuna while the Reds host Newcastle United. But no group of players can be blamed, if they only have their eyes on the next UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg between the two European giants, which will take place at Anfield.

There have been question marks about Real Madrid's form this season, but it's nothing compared to Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp's army is in 9th place in the Premier League table and has only won 2 matches in 2023 so far. It looks like there's some good news for Liverpool on the injury front. Looks like Virgil van Dijk is getting close to fitness.

As talkSPORT reported, Klopp said when asked if Van Dijk would be ready to start at St James' Park against Newcastle United:

" I think so.

"Yesterday he looked completely ready. I think he will be the same today and we will make a decision.

Klopp confirms Liverpool boost ahead of Real Madrid game

Van Dijk has missed the last few games and was not used as a substitute in the recent Merseyside Derby against Everton. But it looks like the Dutchman could feature this weekend against Newcastle United and then against Real Madrid midweek, if he can keep fit.

It goes without saying that he is a very important player for Liverpool. Especially in a big game against Real Madrid. The two teams faced each other in the Champions League final last season, but this time only one will make it to the knockout stages.

Real Madrid have some injury concerns ahead of this weekend's game against Osasuna. Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos were left out of the lineup. Therefore, their ability to attend is in doubt, as well as in the midweek game against Liverpool. Hope they both recover in time to have a big night.
