THE SUDDEN PASSING OF GHANAIAN WINGER CHRISTIAN ATSU IS MOURNED BY FIFA.

Fifa, the organisation that governs world football, has expressed its sorrow over the passing of Ghanaian international Christian Atsu.

Early on Saturday, it was revealed that the former Chelsea and Everton forward had passed away.

After a terrible earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria, Atsu was buried beneath the debris.

However, the 31-year-old was discovered dead following a 12-day intensive search.


The dead corpse of the former Newcastle United winger is anticipated to land in his home nation the following week.

However, Fifa sent their sympathies to the family of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] the best player in a social media message.

Fifa tweeted, "Rest in peace, Christian."

For Ghana, Atsu played 65 times and scored 9 goals. He appeared at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as well.

In a statement, CAF expressed its condolences for the loss of the late Christian Atsu, who was discovered dead in Hatay following a protracted search that lasted many days.

Atsu was discovered dead early on Saturday morning after spending 12 days hidden among the debris.

The player's agent in Ghana posted a confirmation of the news on social media.


"I regret to inform all of Christian Atsu's well-wishers that this morning's recovery of his corpse was made with the heaviest of hearts. My sincere sympathies are extended to his family and close friends. I'd want to use this chance to express my gratitude to everyone for their prayers and support "He composed.

"I beg that everyone would kindly respect the privacy of the family at this extremely difficult time as we make the required arrangements."

In its statement, CAF says:

"Following the earthquake in Turkey, CAF is grieved by the unfortunate death of Ghanaian international Christian Atsu.

Atsu played for many teams, including Everton, Chelsea, Newcastle in England, and Porto. He was a 65-time member of the national team. He was working for Hataspor until he tragically passed away in Turkey.

His family and the Ghanaian football family have been sent sincere condolences by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and the African football family.

The spirit of Christian Atsu may now rest in peace."
