Renowned American tech reviewer and YouTube Marques Brownlee tackle billionaire and Tesla owner Elon Musk over his decision on selling the blue check mark which was previously free on Twitter.
On the 27th of October 2022, billionaire Elon Musk became the new owner and CEO of the popular micro blogging platform Twitter after he purchased it for a whopping $44bn. After the purchase Elon Musk and his team have been working tireless to the the app much more fun and better for its users. Bugs and Bots issues have been fixed. On particular decision that most disagreed with him was his decision to sell the blue check mark (verification badge) which was previously free and only notable accounts were able to get them for $11 per month.
Although most disagreed with him on that, he turned a deaf ear and went ahead to introduce them. Today, the 19th of February, the official Twitter Support account made an announcement to the community and Marques Brownlee who did not agree with them on that decided to tackle them.
The announcement reads;
“Effective March 20, 2023, only Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to use text messages as their two-factor authentication method. Other accounts can use an authentication app or
security key for 2FA. Learn more here: “ providing their official website link for users to read more.
Marques Brownlee was chanced on the tweet gave an outstanding reply and Elon Musk replied.

“Rule #1: Never charge for something
that was previously free”.
Elon replying to Marques quote also took to the comments and wrote;
“Twitter is getting scammed by phone companies for $60M/year of fake 2FA SMS messages”.
Marques replied;
“Twitter should definitely steer people to Authenticator apps in their messaging of removing this feature. Most people just do
sms 2-factor because it's the easiest thing.
Now all those peoples accounts are less
secure”.
