??- How to Stay
Active Without Exercising
Hello again,
Your weekly dose of Heidi is here! *Mini
confetti*. Come along with me as we continue to explore the vast interesting world that is…….*drumroll please*….healthy living!
If you already
knew I was going to say that, no, no you didn’t.
When I found out exercise was an
essential part of healthy living, to say I was not thrilled would be the understatement of the century.
Most of us have been in the ‘gym phase’ before. The grueling
workouts you start with and then realize are probably not for you but you go
through anyways because the ‘summer body
goals’ was to be achieved at all cost. Only to completely burnout and
simply not continue.
Honestly, if you can stick to a
consistent gym routine you should be given an award for that because it is not
easy out here.
Now here I was, after another failed ‘gym phase’, concluding that the all-around
healthy lifestyle was not for me. Trust me, that thought process ended as
quickly as it was conceived.
After trying it out I realized home
workouts work best for me, but even that gets tiring sometimes so the best
alternative was to find ways I could stay active and fulfil the exercise part
of healthy living without going through intense workout routines.
Let's face it, even if you had the
strength to do those, you simply can’t do them every day without running out of
steam fast.
You
can certainly take my word for it.
Now my lovelies without any further ado,
(I feel so fancy when I use that term) let's look at the ways you can be active without exercising.
·
Walking – I
know you have seen it a million times already but there’s a reason for that.
Taking time out of your day to go for a walk for at least 30 minutes can do wonders for your body. I try my very best to reach
the goal of 10,000 steps per day.
·
Taking the stairs when that is an option – The invention of elevators is a truly heavenly
thing, don’t get me wrong. However, stairs are an amazing tool for keeping
active. If you have regular access to stairs, this one is simple and extremely
effective. Just five minutes of
stair climbing will help you burn around 48
calories. Plus, climbing stairs is a great workout for your legs
and your butt ;).
·
Try to perfect your posture – As most people know standing up straight is actually
hard work. Trying to keep a good posture
while standing, sitting, or even walking requires the use of many of your muscles. I can’t count the number
of times I’ve caught myself slouching because it felt more ‘comfortable’ (I
just checked my posture while typing this, your girl is good). Practice standing
and sitting up straight, with your shoulders pulled back and down, your back
will thank you.
·
Listen to music while doing basic chores – Chores can get repetitive
and boring, so why not play some
music to move your body to while you
are at it? I have a lot of playlists of different genres, Afrobeats being the top of course, that I use to get past
mind-numbing chores. Move your body and enjoy the rhythm of the music as you cruise through endless housework, even
if you’re just doing the dishes.
·
Stretching - Stretching is actually more important than we think.
The very simple act of stretching helps keep your body feeling good,
especially if you’re hunched over a computer for hours on end each day, like
many of us usually are. Let's be real for a second though, that little shake
our body does when we do some much-needed stretching is simply *magical*. It's almost like the perfect
reboot your body needs.
Keeping up with a healthy lifestyle can
be hectic, you can trust yours truly on this, but there are so many loopholes
that work great when successfully incorporated. Don’t forget to check back in
next week for more tips and tricks for maintaining a healthy lifestyle :).
Till next time….
Love Always,
Heidi
