- Ditch the Soda, Drink More Water (5 Ways to Up Your Water Intake)

Hello there,

Welcome back my lovelies, your favourite is delighted to have you back ;).

Let’s get right into it. Our bodies are made up of 70% of water, and drinking enough of it is essential for our optimal health. Most of us already know this but for some reason, I have been here before so I can relate, we forget to drink water.

It's easier to grab a coffee in the morning or pick out a soda than it is to actively go for water, unless after an intensive workout……

….you would definitely need water after that.

So here you are faced with the dilemma of knowing you need to drink more water but you find yourself forgetting or skipping it altogether because you want something more flavourful.

That’s why your girl is here!

The following are some ways to increase your water intake to better suit your body’s needs.

·         Set a daily goal – Setting a daily water intake goal can help you drink more water. Doing this can be motivating and make you more likely to make changes that would last. I try to drink the equivalent of 8 glasses of water every day. Having a daily reminder on my phone set to different times of the day has helped me stay consistent in my water intake. These reminders are very helpful, especially if you struggle with being forgetful or too busy to drink.

·         Add some flavour to your water – Just drinking water can be boring especially if you are craving something with more flavour. You can add a little bit of flavor by steeping fresh fruit (oranges, pineapple, lemon), veggie slices (cucumber, ginger), and even herbs to spice up your water. It's easily addictive because it's that good. The longer you let it steep, the tastier the water becomes. You can play around with different combos, like cucumber lemon or ginger pineapple.

·         Switch out soda with sparkling water – Sometimes I simply want to recreate the feeling of drinking a fizzy drink without actually drinking soda (this helped when I was making the transition from soda to water). To spice it up you can add a little lemon juice or a lemon wedge, chefs kiss.

·         Eat foods high in water – Another way to increase your water intake is to eat fruits and vegetables that have high contents of water. Some examples include cucumber (96% water), lettuce (95% water), watermelon (92% water), and orange (88% water).  Not only would you be fulfilling your daily water intake you can also make delicious healthy snacks.

·         Try herbal tea – The way tea is underrated is mind-blowing to me. Tea is basically healthy tastily flavoured water. My favourite thing to do when working for long hours is to take breaks in between to make a nice cup of lemon tea with a little honey in it. It’s incredibly soothing. If you are not a fan of hot tea you can make it into an iced tea. Switch out the sugar or sweetener for a natural option like honey.

Water has amazing effects on our bodies, let's try to make consuming it a part of our daily routine ;). Catch you next time my lovelies.

Till next time….

Love Always,

Heidi
