Marcus Rashford sends message to Lewis Hamilton following F1 superstar's recent comments about Man Utd takeover
Marcus Rashford has texted Lewis Hamilton just a week after the Formula 1 star commented on Jim Ratcliffe's attempt to buy Manchester United.
On Friday, Manchester-born Ratcliffe submitted an offer to buy United through his petrochemical company Ineos Group. The British billionaire wants to give "Manchester to Manchester United" with his marriage proposal.
However, a "terrible" offer from the opponent for the Old Trafford team also came from Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the chairman of QIB bank of Qatar.
Qatari's proposal will incur no debt, while all profits during his tenure will be given back to the community through the new Nine Two Fund. As the two sides struggled to buy the club Manchester from the Glazers, United's star player Rashford met Hamilton, the seven-time F1 champion, a close friend of Ratcliffe.
Rashford meets Hamilton
Rashford attended the Moncler Genius show on Monday night, alongside Hamilton and Serena Williams.
The United forward was photographed at London's Olympia ahead of the event and upon meeting Hamilton took to Twitter to express his joy at meeting the F1 legend.
The 24-year-old wrote:
"Nice to meet you. See you soon champion."
Rashford has been in phenomenal form since the World Cup in Qatar, scoring 16 goals in 17 games in all competitions. This is seven times more than any other player in the major European leagues during the same period.
Hamilton's close relationship with Ratcliffe
Hamilton spoke last Wednesday about Ratcliffe's bid to buy United.
Hamilton and Ratcliffe have a close relationship due to owner Ineos joining the Mercedes Formula 1 team, with which Hamilton has won six of his seven F1 world championships.
"I'm very close to Jim so I know where he is (with United)," Hamilton said.
"We talk a lot about football because he is very passionate about it. We have big talks about what his team is doing, we talk about how Arsenal play.
"Obviously he's from Manchester so this is his dream home...where is he from. But I can't give you any more information on that."
