'It's something we have to learn' - Jules Kounde identifies areas for improvement for Barcelona
Barcelona head into the Europa League knockout stage second leg against Manchester United knowing they must overcome a team that hasn't lost at home since September to progress.
A 2-2 draw last week meant everyone had to play, despite Barca's lack of home advantage, with the game taking place at Old Trafford. However, they will be hoping to become the second Spanish team to win at this stadium this season, following Real Sociedad's 1-0 victory in the Europa League group stage.
Barcelona's stellar defensive performance is the hallmark of their successful season so far, and Jules Kounde knows another great performance is needed in Manchester on Thursday.
“Defense is key this season. Tomorrow we have another challenge against a big attack. We faced it with great confidence, knowing we would have to do well.
The first leg against Man Utd saw Barcelona conceding two goals in a span of six minutes, after taking the lead just three minutes before the Reds' first goal. Koundé knew that improvement needed to be made so that he and his teammates could better manage the game.
“There are situations in a game where you have to have better control, like when the game comes and goes. At these times, we don't honor our game plan. That's what we have to learn.
Barcelona still has a lot of work to do in Manchester, but if Kounde and his defenders can do their best, they have a great chance of reaching the last 16 of the Europa League.
