Egyptian footballer Mohammed Salah has made history by equaling the number of UEFA Champions League goals scored by Ivorian legend Didier Drogba. Salah achieved this feat during Liverpool's 5-2 loss against Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the 2022-23 season.

Salah's goal against the defending Champions  was his 44th in the Champions League, drawing him level with Drogba's tally. The former Chelsea striker, who won the Champions League with the Blues in 2012, scored 44 goals in 92 appearances in the competition during his career.

Salah's achievement is even more impressive considering that he has reached the same number of goals in just 72 appearances and has become the first player in the club history to reach that landmark in the UEFA Champions league

The Liverpool forward has been a prolific scorer in the Champions League since his debut in the competition with Basel in 2013.

Salah's first Champions League goal came in a 3-0 victory over Maribor in the 2017-18 season. He went on to score 10 goals that season, helping Liverpool reach the final, where they were beaten by Real Madrid.

The following season, Salah scored five goals as Liverpool won the Champions League for the sixth time in their history. He scored in the final against Tottenham, and also netted twice in the semi-final against Barcelona.

Salah's goalscoring form has continued in the current season, with the Egyptian scoring three goals in six appearances in the group stage. His goal against Madrid in the round of 16 was his Eight in the competition this season and currently top the scoring charts with PSG Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid.

Salah's achievements in the Champions League have been a key factor in Liverpool's success in the competition in recent years. The Reds have reached the final thrice in the past three seasons, winning the trophy in 2019.

Salah will be hoping to add to his tally of Champions League goals when Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the second leg of the round of 16 in a forth night.

In addition to his success in the Champions League, Salah has been a key player for Liverpool in the Premier League. He helped the Reds win the title in the 2019-20 season, scoring 19 goals in 34 appearances.

Salah's achievements in the Champions League have cemented his status as one of the world's best players. He will be looking to add to his tally of goals in the competition in the years to come, and could well surpass Drogba's record in the near future.
