Bruno Fernandes played in each of Manchester United's opening two Premier League defeats against Brighton and Brentford.

Surprisingly, Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes asserted that their 2-1 loss to Brighton on the first day of the season was a more difficult setback than their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Brentford. Since those two games, the Red Devils have been on the rise. And with Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, they are now just one win away from a trophy (4.30pm).

After the instability of the previous season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United had high expectations for this one.

Yet after conceding six goals in their first two league games against Brentford and Brighton, they had a harsh reality check.

United fell to the first team 2-1 before being outplayed in a 4-0 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Yet in a shocking admission, Fernandes told Sky Sports that the loss to Brighton was harder to stomach and that it was the one that "hurts the most."

We got the first opportunities to score in the first game against Brighton, the midfielder remarked. We failed to score.

Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United has ignored Brentford's humiliation when talking about his team's worst loss. "Brighton goes there one time and they have the goal and you could feel the ghosts from the past," he said.

You know, we are playing good and then all of a sudden we give up a goal.

"The opening match was incredibly difficult to have. I believe more than Brentford, as we are aware of the fact that we have made mistakes both individually and collectively.

"You know, the intention and intensity were missing. They had more passion and desire than we had.

"But, for me, the Brighton game was the one that hurt the most.

"So you felt like you were playing well and were in a nice moment, and then all of a sudden, you gave up a goal.

"But I've seen this before, a lot of times. I believe the Liverpool match was the turning point in our season.

"The environment was lively. The instant Licha [Lisandro Martinez] made his initial tackle, I believe the crowd immediately stood up and recognized that this was going to be our chance.

"That it needs to be our turnaround, the game we win, to be the one that changes things."

When United and Newcastle square off on Sunday, Fernandes is probably going to start for United.
