A 992-based limited-edition 911 Speedster variant is on the way, according to UK publication Car Magazine, and it will debut at the 2023 LA Auto Show. The publication states that it will then go on sale in 2024. Since Car Magazine does not cite any sources other than "those in the know" and the LA Auto Show typically takes place in November, we will classify this as a serious rumor. Having said that, Porsche has recently been developing a number of Heritage models.

The Porsche 911 Speedster is a convertible variant in which the roof is essentially hidden behind the aerodynamic domes behind the seats in case of an unexpected downpour. The current models of the Porsche 911 pay homage to the famous 1950s 356 Speedster.

The previous limited-edition 911 Speedster from Porsche debuted in 2019 as a final offering for the 991 generation. The GT3's incredible engine was the driving force behind that vehicle, providing owners with an incomparable burst of aural pleasure when the roof was closed.

The "double bubble" behind the rear, lowered bucket seats, and snug convertible top are characteristics of the 911 Speedster models. The 992 version, according to rumors, would use the naturally aspirated flat-six engine from the most recent GT3. That is a massive 4.0-liter engine that produces 502 horsepower at 8,400 rpm.

Only 1,948 of the final Speedster models were produced for sale, arriving late in the 991's lifespan. Since it was built on the 911 GT3 chassis, we can assume that the subsequent model will have more components than just the GT3 engine. Despite the fact that it was a Porsche, very few left the factory for less than $300,000 after options; it sold for $275,000. The last one was sold for $500,000 at an online charity auction hosted by RM Sotheby's. Porsche then donated a portion of the proceeds to United Way Worldwide to assist in the fight against COVID-19 in the United States. We wouldn't be surprised if the first 992 Speedster was auctioned in a similar fashion, but we'll try to hold back our excitement until we hear something specific from Porsche.
