Eastern Regional Hospital laments as patients flee without paying their bills.

The Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua's management has expressed concern about the rate at which patients and their relatives who have yet to settle their service debts are fleeing the facility.

According to management, patients and their relatives who frequently arrange with management to have an undertaking to defer the payment of their debt do not keep their end of the bargain and frequently leave the hospital unceremoniously.

Dr. Arko Akoto Ampaw, the Regional Hospital's Medical Superintendent, told the media that the disturbing development is affecting the facility's finances and operations.

"We've contacted the medical social workers unit to see if they can pay or not. And whether they want to have an undertaking to postpone payments to a later date, they don't. And patients just leave the wards without paying their bills, which costs the hospital a lot of money," he lamented.

He stated that management is working around the clock to tighten security at the hospital.

"We hope to tighten security around the hospital so that such things are minimized," Dr. Ampaw said.

He also urged members of the public who have yet to come to the mortuary to do so in order to assist the hospital in decongesting the morgue.

He also urged members of the public who have yet to come to the mortuary to do so in order to assist the hospital in decongesting the morgue.

"The hospital's capacity to contain the population is beginning to dwindle. Most of our morgues are nearly full, and it's possible that people aren't burying their loved ones early enough. We would have liked for the general public to be aware of this. So they can take their bodies and bury them early to free up space. In any case, management plans to expand that area in the future," the hospital's Medical Superintendent stated.
