THE HISTORY OF NA GBEWAA AND PUSIGA AS TOLD BY FOUR PROMINENT AND REVERED INDIVIDUALS AMONG THE KUSASIS, ANINCHEMA ABUGRAGO (KUSASIS’ CHIEF), PHILIP (PUSIGA ‘CHIEF’), THOMAS ABILLA (‘WANNABA’) and Cletus Avoka (Member of Parliament, Zebilla). CONTRADICTIONS AND FALSE CLAIMS LAID BARE.
This is video and documentary evidence of their account of the history of Na Gbewaa and Pusiga town for all to see the outright contradictions and falsehoods in their narration of events. The youth should put the guns down and rather engage in intellectual discourse and dialogue, the guns and violence can never solve the issue.
THOMAS ABILLA’S NARRATION – Thomas Abilla on Max Empire morning show said that, Na Gbewaa came and met Kusasis already living in Pusiga. He also said Na Gbewaa gave birth to the Mamprusis, Dagombas and Nanumbas who later moved out of Pusiga to their present settlements. So according to Thomas Abilla, Kusasis are not children or descendants of Na Gbewaa.
PHILIP’s (Pusiga ‘Chief’) NARRATION – Philip in his Facebook live interview on the Kusasi Voice Association page said that when Na Gbewaa came to Pusiga, there were no houses, Pusiga was uninhabited. He said Na Gbewaa settled under a large tree called the Pusiga tree and that people used to journey far to him there for spiritual healing and they used to refer to him as the person under the Pusiga tree and that’s how the town got its name as Pusiga. He further said Kusasis are children and descendants of Na Gbewaa. Lastly, he said the other tribes (Mamprusis, Dagombas, Nanumbas, Moshies) claiming to be descendants of Na Gbewaa do so because they stayed with them the Kusasis who are the descendants of Na Gbewaa and so they adopted Na Gbewaa as their ancestor too. So according to Philip, Mamprusis, Dagombas, Nanumbas and Mossis are not descendants of Na Gbewaa.
ANINCHEMA ABUGRAGO’S NARRATION – Aninchema Abugrago in narrating the history to the Chaka Orleans Heritage Foundation, an NGO dealing with History and Heritage of People when they visited him in 2012 said that “Na Gbewa is the greatest and oldest shrine that the Kusasis worship and in those days (pre-colonial era) the shrine took the form of a python not a human being and appears once a while, a stranger with no wife consulted the shrine about his predicaments. After some days he got married to a widow and their offspring’s brought forth the different ethnic groups up North including the Dagombas, Mamprusis, Nanumbas.” So according to Aninchema Abugrago, the Mamprusis, Dagombas and Nanumbas are not children or descendants of Na Gbewaa but rather the children and descendants of a stranger who consulted the Na Gbewaa shrine for children and the shrine accepted his offering and it is these children who later on became Mamprusis, Dagombas and Nanumbas. Aninchema Abugrago is among the Kusasis who believe that Na Gbewaa was not a human being who lived and had wives and children but a god/shrine who they the Kusasis worship and which sometimes takes the form of a python.
CLETUS AVOKA’S NARRATION – Cletus Avoka on the Good Evening Ghana program on Metro TV categorically denied Na Gbewaa and said no Mamprusi or Dagomba comes to the Na Gbewaa shrine to pacify it. Again, when the PNDC government constituted a committee to investigate the Bawku land dispute in 1984, Avoka was one of the people who represented the Kusasis at the committee and they denied the existence of Na Gbewaa and said the story of Na Gbewaa was only a ‘LEGEND’, a MYTH. So according to Avoka and his fellow Kusasis, Na Gbewaa never existed, so Mamprusis, Dagombas, Nanumbas and Mossis are not descendants of Na Gbewaa.
So, the questions now are, Did Na Gbewaa meet Kusasis in Pusiga as said by Thomas Abilla or he founded Pusiga as said by Philip
(Pusiga ‘Chief’).?
Are Kusasis descendants of Na Gbewaa as said by Philip (Pusiga ‘Chief’) or they are not as said by Thomas Abilla, Aninchema Abugrago and Avoka
Are Mamprusis, Dagombas and Nanumbas descendants of Na Gbewaa as said by Thomas Abilla or they are not as said by Philip (Pusiga ‘Chief’), Abugrago Aninchema and Avoka
Was Na Gbewaa a human being who lived in Pusiga and his ‘grave’ is now turned to a shrine as said by Philip (Pusiga ‘Chief’) or he was not a human being but a ‘legend’, a myth, a god worshiped by the Kusasis at his shrine as said by Aninchema Abugrago and Avoka.?a.? .?
