Vaccine shortage: 120 measles cases reported in the Northern Region.
The Paediatric Society of Ghana reported 120 cases of measles in the Northern region by the end of December 2022 due to a lack of essential vaccines.
On Saturday, Dr. Agyeiwaa Boundie, a member of Ghana's Paediatric Society, spoke on the Big Issue, urging the government to ensure that the country never runs out of vaccines for children.
"In the Northern Region, 120 cases of measles were reported. As a result, the situation has deteriorated. Many of the children had not been immunized or were unaware of their status.
"This has happened, and it should not happen again. Our children are in jeopardy... Our pensioners could speak for themselves when it came to haircuts, but our children couldn't, and this should never happen again in our country."
Parliament called Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu to answer questions about the country's current vaccine shortages on Thursday.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has blamed a shortage of vaccines used for routine infant immunization on the depreciation of the Ghana Cedi.
A vaccine shortage could make children more vulnerable to the diseases against which vaccines are intended to protect them.
The routine vaccination program includes the tuberculosis (TB) vaccine Bacille Calmette-Gurin (BCG), the oral polio vaccine 0 (OPV), measles-rubella, meningitis, and diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough).
Vaccines are also given against polio, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenza type B (DPT/Hep B/Hib 1), as well as six infectious diseases that are particularly dangerous to babies.

The officer was discovered by police in the Central Region.
Lt Col Peter Amoah of the Ghana Armed Forces' (GAF) Directorate of Army Peace Keeping Operations went missing on Saturday.
According to a press release from the Ghana Armed Forces, Lt Col Amoah was last seen on Thursday, February 23, 2023, around 3:30 p.m. in the general area of Burma Camp.

As a result, the Ghana Armed Forces issued a public alert regarding Lt Col Peter Amoah's disappearance.
He lives in New Labadi Villas, block E, room E2.
He stands about 1.8 meters tall, has brown eyes, and has a dark complexion.
He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a red inscription, blue jeans shorts, and black slippers with a white stripe, according to the GAF.
The GAF said in a press statement issued on Saturday, February 25, 2023 by Brig Gen E. Lt Col Peter Amoah discovered
He was found, according to a police statement issued on Sunday.
The officer was apprehended by police in the Central Region.
He has since been turned over to the military, while police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
