THE IRONY OF THINGS HAPPENING IN BAWKU
The military and the police always justify the killing of people in BAWKU in their quest to maintain peace but cannot justify the killing of people in Nalerigu in their quest to enforce the law, sadly they have forgotten the fact that when the laws are properly enforced peace is inevitable, peace definitely is going to reign in any law abiding society, I was happy hearing the defense minister in parliament where he stated that what is happening in BAWKU is criminality and not the issue of chieftaincy and that the military have been directed to deal with them as such.
Now the Bolegatanga High Court has issued warrant for the arrest of the criminals who are behind the violence in BAWKU, why is the State of Ghana wasting its time and resources in keeping large number of soldiers and police personnel in BAWKU when the criminals who are supposed to be dealt with are in Nalerigu and Walewale? Why is there no curfew in Nalerigu when the source of the criminality in Bawku is from Nalerigu? Why can't those criminals be arrested? Having we heard of the arrest of sitting and former heads of states in democratic countries?
How will our democracy grow if this warrant is not executed merely on the basis of political interference? Why are we behaving as if until the military take over governance of our country certain individuals cannot be arrested no matter how their actions contravene the Constitution of our dear Republic? Former president Jacob Zuma was jailed in South Africa not because he had no followers to fight for him but because the law is supreme in every democratic country.
Until the Constitution is suspended or abrogated nobody can act against the laws of the land and expect not to be held accountable simply because he or she has large followers. Laws were made to safeguard human life on this Earth without laws no human being can survive this earth.
