But with a little more patience, Rashford's career could have taken a very different trajectory.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Rashford revealed:
“Some people don't know this, but in my first year at Fletcher Moss (an amateur team that United regularly recruits), I played in goal.
“The year I was watched by United scouts, I played as a striker because my team always won and I was bored. When I was a kid, I played in front of the net."
If Rashford stays in goal and completes his goalkeeping development, he will compete with David De Gea for the glove at Old Trafford.
And Rashford also revealed his style of play as a goalkeeper, adding that he would be happy to wear gloves if needed in an emergency.
"I'm a good blocker. Not too good at other things (playing), but if someone wants to shoot me, I can save a few people.
"I'm more old-fashioned. I'm not risking the back, just getting him out of goal."
When asked if De Gea was aware of Rashford's former position, he replied:
"Yes, he does a little bit.
“We had a couple of conversations just within the team [about] if the goalkeeper is injured, who will go in the net.
"And I remember a few years ago, everyone said 'the biggest should be in the net' and I didn't.
"I was like 'no way, I trust myself more than I trust you in the net'."
In his interview, Rashford also reiterated his penalty every Thursday under Louis van Gaal.
But today, Rashford will feature in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, whose fans are already in London.
