In Accra, a group from Wongpanit Pathong Company Ltd, a well-known waste management firm in Thailand and across the world, met with Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the minister of sanitation and water resources.
The Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), under the direction of its Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, organized the meeting, which took place on Friday, February 24, 2023.
The Minister was informed about the business activities by the Wongpanit delegation, which was led by its president, Dr. Somthai Wongcharden.
Wongapanit focuses mostly on recyclable materials, according to Dr. Wongcharden, but he also noted that "right now we are also developing via non-recyclable garbage from the municipal solid waste, therefore we also work on landfills."
He explained, "We gather the trash from various homes and then transport them to our recycling facilities. He emphasized that one of the company's important success factors was that "we modify our products and services to match the expectations of the market" after first considering the needs of the market.
Dr. Wongcharden, who was speaking via a translator, continued by pointing out that the business was engaged in urban garbage mining.
He said, "We act as a private corporation but we also have links with the government of Thailand.
The president of Wongpanit Pathong Co., Ltd. also revealed that his organization manages recyclable hazardous trash, including automobile batteries and electronic garbage (or "e-waste").
We recycle old cars and automobile batteries as well. To eliminate damaged autos, we also collaborate with Mercedes Benz Thailand, he added.
He disclosed that Wongpanit Pathong Co., Ltd. has 2,334 branches throughout Thailand and other branches in Cambodia, the United States, and other countries.
He said that the American branches were performing quite well.
The Wongpanit group was cordially welcomed by the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who also expressed happiness over the Thai investors' interest in Ghana.
She addressed the group, "I must emphasize that you are with the right person and the right firm (referring to Dr. Siaw Agyepong and his Jospong Group of Companies)."
She praised the expansion of the Jospong Group of Companies in the recycling industry.
Nonetheless, she was confident that because Wongpanit Pathong was older and a larger organization, their collaboration would be extremely successful.
The minister urged the Jospong Group of Companies and other interested private businesses to investigate the possibilities of funding the recycling of used cars in light of the aforementioned.
