With 381 horsepower, it has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine!
Following an official teaser and numerous spy shots from 2021, the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class of 2024 has undergone a facelift. The GLE will be available in four different configurations, including the AMG models. A 48-volt mild hybrid system, which is included in all models except for the brand-new 2024 GLE 400e 4MATIC, which is a plug-in hybrid, is the most significant addition under the hood.
The GLE 350 is the base model with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, just like in 2023. 4MATIC all-wheel drive is now standard, and the engine still produces 255 horsepower. The total torque increases from 273 lb-ft in the 2023 model to 295 lb-ft in the 2024 model thanks to the 48-volt Integrated Starter Generator, which adds 20 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. On the base model, going from 0 to 60 mph takes just seven seconds. A nine-speed automatic transmission continues to provide power.
A 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque powers the GLE 450 4MATIC. That's a slight increase from the model before it, which had 362 horsepower, but the torque stays the same. The model can reach 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. The GLE 580 4MATIC is an option for those who want faster acceleration without the harsh AMG ride. It has a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 510 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, up from 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet before. With a time of 4.3 seconds, this non-AMG GLE is by far the fastest.
The GLE 400e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid model, as previously stated, joins the lineup to compete with the BMW X5 PHEV, which is anticipated to receive an update later this year. It has a small 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 248 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. However, the permanently excited synchronous motor makes 134 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.
With 381 hp and 479 lb-ft, the total combined outputs are better than the inline-six, but the extra weight makes the 0–60 time a little slower at 5.8 seconds. The GLE will be one of the few PHEVs with an available 60 kW DC onboard charger, in addition to the 11 kW AC onboard charger that comes standard.A new Off-Road Engineering Package that is only available on the GLE 580 elevates the capabilities to new heights. An underbody guard and an additional 1.2 inches of ground clearance from the AIRMATIC air suspension are included in this package. Off-Road mode turns on a virtual view through a "transparent hood" that shows what's underneath the car, including the front wheels and steering position, as long as the Parking Package is installed.
The new trailer route planner from Mercedes also makes it easier to tow the GLE. Even if the trailer is small, like a bike rack, the weight and dimensions can now be used by the navigation system to change the route. There is even a feature called Trailer Maneuvering Assist that makes backing up with a trailer easier.
On the outside, there isn't much of a difference between the GLE and the model from 2023. The grille has two new horizontal louvres with chrome inserts, the air intakes have a horizontal chrome accent, and the headlights and taillights have been slightly changed. The GLE 580 is the only trim that comes standard with the AMG Line exterior package. New 19-, 20-, and 21-inch wheels, as well as Twilight Blue Metallic and MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey, have been added to the color palette.
The GLE receives a new touch-sensitive steering wheel inside. The new Catalana Beige/Black and Bahia Brown/Black color schemes add a touch of luxury, as do the Maybach-inspired chrome air vents. Last but not least, the GLE is equipped with the most recent second-generation MBUX infotainment system, which features dual 12.3-inch screens that support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly.
Pricing and fuel economy data are currently unavailable. The AMG models of the 2023 GLE lineup will be available at US dealerships in 2023.
