Ghanaian rapper Yaa Pono finally addresses his controversial line in the lyrics of his song which fans automatically detected was directed to Sarkodie and rapper Kwaw Kese also attached Yaa Pono for attacking the landlord of rap music in Ghana.
A few weeks ago, Sarkodie was in the news after he attained a feature from the management of the late reggae legend Bob Marley’s estate on his song “Stir it up”. Sarkodie, as usual, did what he does best on the song and it quickly went viral and he received a whole lot of applause. Although he received a whole lot of positive feedback, that did not stop some industry colleagues from also coming in with their opinions which many deem as not important.
A few such colleagues who brought on their negative opinions were Blakk rasta, Shatta wale, Yaa Pono, and others. Yaa Pono in a new interview on Kingdom Fm, Yaa pono explained his lyrics “since when did we feature the dead” in his yard song which he released recently. According to Yaa Pono, he never dissed Sarkodie but rather he spoke in proverbs and most people didn't get the meaning including Kwaw kese. See his explanation quoted below;
"In case after some years I die, or a legend dies
and 100 years later, someone features him, then
they will ask, since when, and the response will
be Sarkodie started it. Is that an insult?" Yaa
Pono quizzed.
"I'm lyrically good so sometimes after writing
my song I have to break it down before releasing
it. Sometimes I speak in proverbs ad those who
interpret do not get it well but then I take it cool
like that. Kwaw Kese was angry because he
thought I had attacked Sarkodie on his
feature with Bob Marley because in the song I
said that, since when did we start to feature the
dead, which I think is no insult."
He also went ahead to question Ghanaians on why they mostly attack him when he praises himself and calls himself the best.
