Yagbonwura Sulemana Tuntumba Boresa Essa I, the late overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, has been hailed by President Akufo-Addo as the creator of the Savannah Region and a gift to him and his administration.

The President paid respect to the late Overlord at the 7th-day adua (prayer) in Damongo, in the Savannah Region, and said he will remember his contribution as one of the three notable leaders in settling the Dagbon Chieftaincy brouhaha.

He said that Yagbonwura Asulemana Tuntumba Bore Essa must be mentioned when discussing the founding of the Savannah Region since he was responsible for all that led to its current condition.

When I think about him, there are two things that will never leave my mind. First, the contribution he gave to the Dagbon issue' settlement as one of the three notable leaders.

"Having these distinguished leaders in place to assist in the government of our nation was a godsend for me when I was elected president. And our nation's history will never forget his contributions to his involvement in that fruitful venture," he said.

The second was his part in creating the desire for the establishment of the Savannah Region (contribution to development). His demand that we have the referendum allowed Savannah residents to voice their preferences and, eventually, led to its holding.

I was able to affix my signature to a document creating the Savannah Area. The President stated that he will always be remembered as the Savannah Region's creator.

On Sunday, February 5, 2023, Yagbonwura Bore Essa passed away in the Savannah Region's Damongo. The funeral was supported by the President with a gift of $100,000, 20 sacks of rice, and a bull.

For his part, Saeed Jibril Muhazu, the minister for the Savannah Region, guaranteed the seat of government and Ghanaians of a smooth and peaceful transition for the new skin, insisting that "peace will exist before and after the entire process."

The late King's successor, according to sources with the Gonja Traditional Council, will carry out all customary ceremonies in the upcoming weeks in order to get ready for his enskinment in Damongo.

Representatives of traditional rulers, including Dagbon, Ashanti Moi, and Wa, as well as lawmakers from all political parties and security officers, were present at the Jakpa Palace.
