After admitting that the company is seeing a "huge decline in income," Twitter CEO Elon Musk sacked at least 200 employees.

The New York Times (NYT) reported late on Sunday that the job losses over the weekend represent around 10% of Twitter Inc.'s personnel. It also stated that this is the most recent round of layoffs since Elon Musk assumed control of the social media platform in October.

I hope you have a happy Sunday, Musk tweeted on Sunday. Your life's new beginning begins now.

The most recent layoffs targeted product managers, data scientists, and engineers; among them was Esther Crawford, a product manager and ardent supporter of Elon Musk who oversaw the introduction of Twitter Blue, a premium membership service.

The company's layoffs affected the most employees since half of the workforce was let go in November last year.

When they were unable to access their work computers or email accounts, they realized they were about to lose their employment.

At a meeting in late November, Musk assured staff members that no more personnel cutbacks were in the works. Yet after unexpectedly losing access to their Slack channel the previous week, the crew began to worry that another round of layoffs might occur this month.

Several people discovered they had been logged out of their laptops and emails on Saturday night.

Crawford and other product managers, as well as data scientists and engineers who focused on machine learning and site dependability, were particularly affected by the most recent layoffs.

The personnel used a program that allowed verified employees to post anonymously to describe the cutbacks as they happened over the weekend.

"They receive email on Saturday at 2am, and access is instantly terminated." According to a post on Blind, this will go down as one of the most severe layoffs in company history.

According to the poster, the project management department was severely hit by layoffs, which also affected sales and marketing, engineering, and finance.

Crawford, who built a tiny screen-sharing and video chat business called Squad before joining Twitter and which Twitter later purchased in 2020, was one of those fired. In addition, Twitter fired Haraldur Thorleifsson, who founded the design firm Ueno, which the business acquired in 2021.

Senior project manager Martijn de Kuijper claimed he learned of his dismissal after being shut out of his email account.

Some have speculated that Musk is getting ready to bring in whole new teams in light of the firing of a large portion of the product team.
