On Monday, February 27th, the 7th edition of the FIFA Awards ceremony took place in Paris.
After deciding to create its own awards after years of lending its name to the prestigious Ballon d'Or awards administered by the French newspaper France Football, FIFA has been hosting The Best awards since 2016. The most coveted annual worldwide football honors are widely acknowledged to be the FIFA The Best awards, the Ballon d'Or, and the Globe Soccer awards.
The men’s awards was based on so many things. The FIFA Men's World Cup, which ended in December, was factored into the Best Men's Awards by basing them on results between August 2021 and December 2022. Voting for the women's awards was based on events that occurred between August 2021 and July 2022, taking the Euro 2022 and Copa America 2022 contests from the previous summer into consideration.
The FIFPro World 11 all-star squads for men and women were one of the 10 award categories overall. In recognition of the Brazilian legend's impact after his passing in December 2022, Pele's wife also received a gift.

Receiving the award, Lionel Messi said:
“It’s a pleasure to be back here, I want to thank my teammates. Scaloni, Dibu, and we're representing them [ my teammates]. This award is partly theirs, and it's a recognition for the whole group for what we did. This year was crazy for me to fulfill my dream [of winning the World Cup] after plenty of battling and insisting. At the end, it came, and it's the greatest thing that has happened to me in my career. Few players get to do it [win the World Cup], and thank God I was able to do it.”
