A request has been made for civil and local government employees who want the Controller and Accountant-General (CAGD) to stop withholding Tier 3 pension payments from their pay to speak with management.

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) claims that the Tier 3 pension deductions from employees' pay are unpopular with its members, who want the CAGD to stop.

Nevertheless, the CAGD stated that the processing of such inputs was carried out through a legally signed correspondence from appropriate authorities in response to CLOGSAG's worries about the 5% deduction from their basic pay towards tier-three pension contributions.

As a result, it is powerless to take any action until the CLOGSAG management specifically requests that the deductions be halted in subsequent correspondence.

Statement

The attention of the CAGD had been directed to the protest by CLOGSAG members concerning the five percent deduction from their basic income towards tier-three pension contributions for its members, according to a statement signed by the Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem.

According to the statement, the leadership of the union correctly authorized and conveyed the 5% tier-three deduction for the benefit of CLOGSAG members, effective February 2023, through their letter with reference number BA/61/SF.1 dated February 2, 2023.

"The Department wishes to reiterate that it generates the payroll based on inputs supplied by employer organizations and unions, in the case of union dues," said the statement.

Communications

It stated, "Processing of such inputs are done when properly signed communications are received from appropriate authorities," to achieve this.

The leadership of the union properly authorized and communicated the five percent tier-three deduction for the benefit of CLOGSAG members through their letter with reference number BA/61/SF.1 of February 2, 2023, according to the statement, which also advised that any concerns regarding the deduction be directed towards the management of CLOGSAG.

Moreover, it said that the department was prepared to put into practice the decision once it had been appropriately notified to the CAGD by the recognized authority.
