The Barcelona right-back hinted that he would continue with the current squad:
“I am in a very big club”
Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has emerged as one of Barcelona's options to bolster their right-back position during the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old Frenchman is believed to have had a lot to do with his departure from the Allianz Arena in recent months after he had a minor conflict with coach Julian Nagelsmann, when he also suffered from some disciplinary issues.
Barcelona are said to have identified Pavard as a target to solve their problems at right-back, where they currently use Jules Kounde.
The fact that the 2018 FIFA World Cup champion's contract with the Bavarian giants is set to expire next year makes the move all the more logical as he will be available for a reasonable price.
However, recent reports suggest that Pavard's situation at the Allianz Arena has changed and the defender is planning to continue in Germany with the Bundesliga champions with a new contract. Recently, coach Nagelsmann also hinted that he wants to keep Pavard, and now the defender himself has spoken out that he feels comfortable at Bayern Munich and does not want to leave.
“I never said I wanted to go. I'm at a very big club, I feel comfortable at Bayern," he told BILD (h/t Fabrizio Romano).
This development could be a blow to Barcelona's hopes of signing Pavard this summer.
The Blaugrana met with the right-back's agent, Pini Zahavi, last month, but with the player's views on continuing to play at Bayern, Xavi Hernandez & co. may have to look elsewhere for reinforcements.
Villarreal's Juan Foyth and Borussia Dortmund's Thomas Meunier are some of the other options Barcelona are considering and it remains to be seen who they will sign. As things remained stable, however, Pavard's chances of leaving began to look bleak.
