In the Ledzokuku municipality, a total of 911 pregnancies at 36 weeks were noted as having anemia in 2022.

The Ledzokuku Municipal Health Directorate deemed this to be concerning since, despite a drop in anemia cases from 883 in 2020 to 862 in 2021, a rise in 911 cases was seen in 2022.

Jacqueline Sfarijlani, the director of the Ledzokuku Municipal Health Directorate, pointed out that the 2022 number reflected expectant mothers whose hemoglobin (HB) levels were below 11, which she classified as a risk factor because hemorrhage was one of the causes of maternal death.

"One of the reasons for maternal death during childbirth is bleeding, so if the hemoglobin is low and we don't address it and the mother goes into labor, Thus, Ms. Sfarijlan said that the directorate will establish an anemia team this year to critically examine the many treatments that may be used to lower anemia in pregnant women at 36 weeks.

Review session

When the Ledzokuku Municipal Health Directorate had its meeting for the 2022 Annual Performance Review last Tuesday in Accra, Ms. Sfarijlan was speaking.

The purpose of the conference was to give healthcare administrators and providers a venue to assess the level of services provided to citizens of the Ledzokuku municipality during the reviewed year.

In addition, it was to evaluate the institutions' successes, shortcomings, and difficulties while looking at how to enhance their offerings for improved healthcare results.

"Addressing healthcare delivery gaps for equity in health coverage through intensifying health promotion interventions, optimizing the use of data and technology to improve access to quality healthcare, and strengthening preventive and control measures for emergent and re-emerging public health events" was the theme of the conference.

Presentations on their activities regarding expanded programs on immunization, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, family planning, COVID-19, adolescent care services, mental health issues, maternal and child care, and mortality rate for a specific delivery were made at the meeting by seven healthcare institutions within the Ledzokuku municipality.

The healthcare facilities included LEKMA Hospital, Kpeshie Medical Center, Family Health Hospital, Teshie Community Clinic, Manna Mission Hospital, and Kpeshie Medical Center.
