On the 66th celebration of Independence Day, all roads led to the Volta Regional Youth Resource Centre at Adaklu-Tsrefe, close to Ho.

"Our togetherness, our power, our destiny" is the motto for the major event.

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the regional minister, who has been visiting the location every week stated everything was ready for the event.

The Volta Region is ready, he stated, expressing pleasure with the job completed.

Due to increased public interest in seeing the facilities, the Youth Resource Centre has developed into a popular tourist destination.

Guests

The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will attend the celebration, which is expected to draw more than 5,000 people from all around the nation.

The event's special guest will be Umaro Sissoco Embalo, President of Guinea-Bissau and Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The celebration is expected to include thrilling cultural performances, a vibrant parade, military exercises, and displays of various skills and abilities, including rappelling and acrobatics.

Eighty members of the diplomatic corps, according to Dr Letsa, will also join in the festivities.

Parade

A commemorative walk is being held in Ho-Ahoe.

64 policemen and 1,042 men from different security agencies, as well as contingents from seven senior high schools (SHS) and elementary schools in the Ho Municipality and the Adaklu District and from nonprofit organisations, will march in the parade.

As of last Thursday, Ghanaian flags were hung on utility poles along the route between the Adaklu District and Ho, as well as in several of the Adaklu villages' main streets.

Ho's streets have been well-cleaned, and several businesses and pubs have painted their interiors in the colours of the national flag.

the hospitality sector

The Daily Graphic discovered that the tourism sector is prospering as March 6 approaches thanks to sold-out hotel rooms.

For instance, a manager at the Volta Serene Hotel, one of the best hotels in the area, informed the Daily Graphic that 60% of the 300 rooms were reserved.

All 100 rooms of the Sky Plus Hotel, an opulent establishment with breathtaking views over Ho, have been reserved for the occasion.

Security

With the remarkable presence of strong armoured vehicles and armed officers from different security organisations, the fever for Independence Day celebrations is spreading quickly.

The regional capital's early morning running sessions by diverse groups have been a regular occurrence over the past few days.

In addition to the national colours that predominate in Ho and Adaklu, prominent spots on several important routes now feature pictures of the region's paramount leaders.

To increase security, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) installed 2,500 street lights in the Ho Municipality to illuminate Ho's streets and the route leading to Adaklu-Tsrefe.

In addition to installing new lights on other important highways in and around the municipality, the ECG fixed broken street lights in the regional capital.

Emmanuel Lumor, the ECG's regional manager, assured everyone that there wouldn't be any power outages throughout the celebration.

The leaders of the Asogli State have promised guests a warm welcome that would stay with them forever.

Juliana Kpedekpo, the chief executive of the Adaklu District, stated, "We are ready to host the entire nation of Ghana in Adaklu for the celebration."

The regional minister and the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, both celebrate their 66th birthdays on the same day as the 66th Independence Day. The 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho is in charge of organising the march past.

The regiment gave the people the reassurance that it had sent out personnel "in strong" to take control of security during the celebration.

In the hopes of experiencing good business during the festival, some restaurants have put up stalls beside the Regional Youth Resource Centre.

Stella Kumedzro, the regional environmental health officer, informed the Daily Graphic that food sellers who had not had a medical examination and been given a health certificate would not be allowed entry to the event.

She said that the action was taken to stop communicable illnesses.

Chiefs from local paramountcies are also anticipated for the festivities.

William Dogbe and Anthony Ahiagba, two taxi drivers, claimed they had maintained their cars in advance in expectation of a successful day.
