Manchester City will turn to Croatian World Cup star Josko Gvardiol - if they lose Aymeric Laporte this summer.
French giants Paris Saint-Germain are expressing a keen interest in centre-back Laporte, who has struggled to become an automatic starter during his five years at the Etihad. That's why City are said to be ready to listen to offers worth more than £60m for the Spain international, 28, in the next transfer window - and use that money to finance support for the pursuit of RB ace Leipzig Gvardiol.
Gvardiol scored for the Bundesliga side against Man City last month in a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie. Pep Guardiola had been a big fan before, but the City boss now seems determined to join the hunt for one of Europe's most demanded players. Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid are also on the hunt for the 21-year-old Gvardiol, with the Blues spending the most in the lead.
The Londoner came close to signing him last summer in a £60m deal but ultimately opted to make other targets instead. Whether a centre-back will top Stamford Bridge's transfer list this time around remains to be seen.
And if Graham Potter's wrestlers are unlikely to make it to next season's Champions League, their chances of landing Gvardiol will be severely affected.

It could pave the way for Man City to attack - and for former Atletico Madrid player Laporte, the Frenchman, to cross the Channel to reach PSG. Gvardiol, a 19-time Croatian, actually signed a new deal with RB Leipzig in December that runs until 2027 and includes a £97m release clause.
However, it's a provision that isn't expected to go into effect until early 2024, making the need to get it this summer - at a much cheaper price - all the more urgent for developers. club to capture those who want it.
