Christian Atsu's Funeral Set For March 17.


Christian Atsu, a former Ghana midfielder, will be laid to rest on March 17, 2023.


The 31-year-old one-week observation took place on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Adjringanor astroturf, which was packed with Ghanaians who came to pay their respects to the footballer.


On February 6, 2023, an earthquake struck Turkey and parts of Syria, killing Atsu.


The news of the death of the former Chelsea and Newcastle United wideman has left the West African country in shock and sadness.


The Ghanaian star's Turkish agent revealed that rescue workers discovered the former Chelsea and Newcastle player's body after searching the building where he lived for days.


The footballer's family and the entire football world were concerned after conflicting information about the winger's whereabouts emerged days after the earthquake struck the city where he lived.


The Ghanaian Hatayspor player, who was in Hatay - the epicenter of the earthquake that killed over 50,000 people in 11 provinces - was initially said to have been rescued.


Despite a new frantic search by his club officials, he was still not found in any of the hospitals, causing concern in the football world about the well-liked player's status.


Murat Uzunmehmet, Atsu's Turkish agent, was attempting to reach him beneath the rubble of Rönesans Residence, According to the 31-year-old footballer, he died in the building where he was staying.


"Under the rubble, Atsu's lifeless body was discovered. His belongings are still being removed at the moment. His phone was also discovered "Uzunmehmet stated this to Demirören News Agency.


Atsu has now been confirmed dead after being discovered under the rubble nearly a fortnight after the devastating earthquake in Turkey.


The 31-year-old was playing for Hatayspor and scored just five hours before the European country was devastated.


After leaving Saudi Arabian club Al-Raed, the winger joined Hatayspor on a free transfer on September 6, 2022. He scored one goal in four matches for Hatayspor.


During his career, he has also played for Feyenoord Ghana, Porto U19, Porto, Chelsea, Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, Malaga, Newcastle United, and Al-Raed.


Atsu spent eight years in the Premier League, signing with clubs such as Chelsea, Bournemouth, Everton, and Newcastle.


Chelsea signed him in 2013 before loaning him out to Vitesse in the Netherlands.


During loan spells from Chelsea, the winger played for Everton, Bournemouth, and Newcastle. Atsu finished his Premier League career with 121 appearances.


Atsu became a fan favorite on Tyneside, appearing in 107 games and scoring eight goals between 2016 and 2021.


In 2017, he signed a permanent contract with Newcastle from Chelsea for £6.2 million.
