Suspect Flees Police Custody.

Pius Anundoabil Ayoma, a private security officer, is said to have escaped from the Manet Police Station in Accra, where he was remanded pending his transfer to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The suspect was brought before an Accra High Court on charges of robbery and attempted murder of his former employers, and was remanded into prison custody after the prosecution made a request.

However, a source close to the case told DAILY GUIDE that the accused escaped from the Manet Police Station at dawn on Thursday and has yet to be apprehended.

According to prosecuting documents filed in court, Pius Anundoabil Ayoma, who lives off the Spintex Road in Accra, works for a private security firm and was assigned to the couple who filed the complaint.

He worked as a security guard for the couple until he was fired after the couple complained to his (the accused person's) supervisor about petty stealing at their home.

On January 21, 2020, he returned to the complainants' home and attacked the security guard on duty, tying his legs and arms with rope and a neck tie and hitting him several times with the but of a gun.

He then forced his way into the main house using a duplicate key he already had and forced his way into their bathroom, where one of the complainants (the wife) was freshening up to go to church.

He then instructed her to transfer money from her phone to a mobile number that was later revealed to be registered in his name. The complainant sent GH2,000 to the number, and the accused later assaulted her and tied her up in the room where he kept the security guard.

The accused then ransacked the rooms and stole several items belonging to the couple, including two iPhones, a Dell laptop computer, a DSTV decoder, a Subwoofer, a 32-inch Samsung television, and a 55-inch Philip flat screen television.

According to court documents, Pius Anundoabil Ayoma directed the woman to call an Uber with her phone, which she did, and the accused transported the stolen items into the vehicle with the driver's assistance.

He then waited for the husband to return from work and shot at him after he attempted to rescue his wife, who was tied to a toilet seat.

The accused then entered the Uber and ordered the driver to drive at gunpoint; however, during the journey, the accused ordered the Uber driver to stop a taxi for him, to which he transferred his booty.

At this point, the police had been informed of the accused's activities, and they tracked him down to Kassapreko in Accra, where they met him in a taxi.

The accused, on the other hand, pointed a gun at the cops and managed to flee, leaving the booty behind.

He then fled to Fumbisi in the Upper East Region, where he was apprehended, but not before firing at the police and injuring several officers.
