The Bono Regional Fulani Chief Amiru Fulbe Ahmed Abdul Mumin has called on Ghanaians to treat criminals to their crimes rather tagging their ethnic background to the crime they committed.
He spoke to Bono Regional Metro tv correspondent Ibrahim Abode.

The Fulani chief expressed worry about how some armed robbers and other criminals are always identified by their Fulani origin or their Fulani ethnicity. He insisted that, not every Fulani is a criminal but that behavior has made every Fulani in the country to look like a criminal. He added that, his kinsmen have gone through and always go discrimination in the hands of many Ghanaians due to these conditions.

The Chief cited a situation where some Fulanis were arrested because they boarded a car where another Fulani who was already on board had a weapon on him. Upon police search and arrest, they arrested all Fulani's on board the car. Meanwhile the Fulani's who were also alongside the suspected criminal did know the suspected criminal but because they were his tribesmen they arrested them.

Mr Amiru also indicated that, in some instances his people are denied access to national amenities because of their lineage. He cited the Ghana card registration and that of the voter  identification card registration where most of their people were turned away and denied access to it without any reasonable explanations.

He added that, his people meet up discriminations from all walks of life in the country, especially at the hospitals, police stations, schools, buses, public offices and even at the markets.

He is therefore calling on authorities to see to it and change the narrative so that, everyone would be seen equal before the law as the constitution stated.

The Bono Regional Fulani Association Secretary, Issahaku Gariba, who also added his voice to the matter shared an experience where their tribe men had to be handcuffed for riding a motor bike without helmets.
