The Greater Accra Region celebrates Independence Day.

The Greater Accra Regional Commemoration of Ghana's 66th Independence Day Anniversary Celebration features 870 students from 29 schools and 240 men from the security services on parade at the Tema Sports Stadium.

The Eastern Naval Command's security contingents include the Fifth Battalion of Infantry, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Police Service, the Eastern Naval Command, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The 29 schools represent the Greater Accra Region's 29 districts.

The Regional celebration began on March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with a massive three-day clean-up exercise in Tema under the "Operation Clean Your Frontage Programme."

During the exercise, all 29 district assemblies in the region participated in cleaning Tema.

Schoolchildren from both public and private schools assisted in the cleaning of their school and immediate surroundings.

About 500 task force members were deployed to enforce the operation clean your frontage's bylaws.

All unauthorized structures were removed as part of the preparation, and abandoned vehicles and trucks along the roads were towed.

Other pre-Independence Day activities included a quiz competition for Junior High Schools throughout the Region, health screenings, and free registration for National Health Insurance.

A football and boxing match between CEOs of industries and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).

Mr Henry Quartey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, met with identifiable groups in Tema, including transport operators, garage owners, and traders' associations, among others.

Mr Quartey explained that the decision to hold the Greater Accra Regional Independence Day celebration in Tema was based on the fact that most of his activities as a Regional Minister had been centered in Accra, as well as the decision of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to hold this year's Regional Independence Day celebration in Tema.

Let's Begin Again Foundation, a non-profit organization, donated school uniforms, footwear, and learning materials to needy students at the New Tagnoma D/A Primary School in the Mion Constituency of Kenya's Northern region on Saturday March 3, 2023.

Mr. Seth Odame, President of the Organization, stated that the Organization was focusing on distributing uniforms to students in the country's poorest communities.

"We emphasise on vulnerable and needy children in deprived communities. We believe that children are important members of their communities who, one day, will become leaders who will bring about positive change in their countries by breaking the cycle of poverty and hunger."

"We decided to donate uniforms to this school to boost the confidence of the children to attend school," he said, noting that most deprived schools faced numerous problems that interfered with academic activities.

Odame described the organization's history and activities over the years, saying that it has helped several communities in the Ashanti region with health, entrepreneurship, women empowerment, and sanitation, among other things.

Mr. Waki Lattuah, the school's headteacher who accepted the items on the school's behalf, thanked the organization for the gesture.

He stated that some of the students were brilliant and that they needed encouragement to study and become responsible citizens. "Your intervention has arrived just in time," he remarked.

Hon. Musah Abdul-Aziz Ayaba, MP for the Mion constituency, and town chief Naa Ziblim Saaka attended the brief donation ceremony.
