Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has told his players that the 7-0 defeat at Anfield does not erase all the good that has been achieved this season.

United suffered the worst defeat in the club's modern history on Sunday, but the manager's attention turned to Real Betis on Thursday.

As expected, there was a lot of backlash and criticism for the team, but according to The Daily Mail, Ten Hag took a different approach.

The Dutchman has opted to pick up his players rather than spank them, as he did when the Reds were beaten 4-0 by Brentford earlier in the season.

Chris Wheeler reported that on Monday morning, Ten Hag arrived at Carrington two hours earlier than his players. He then holds a meeting to discuss what happened to Anfield.

"What happened does not destroy all the good we have done this season," was the boss's message.

“He told them they had to be hungry to make things right. He talks about the importance of not being depressed or losing confidence. He said they would benefit if there were more sessions with Rainier Koers, the Dutch sports psychologist brought to the club by Ten Hag.

A source said: "The match was not replayed, but Ten Hag showed his players selected video clips to 'infuriate them', like when he tried to annoy them at Anfield with How to ask for silence outside the dressing room so they can listen. in celebration of Liverpool.

Wheeler added that Ten Hag's main goal in the encounter was to improve his team's mentality and keep them motivated ahead of the clash with Real Betis, hence why he turned to his players. to benefit from Koers. Surely, the United boss will be looking for answers then.

According to The Mail, while United players are secretly talking in their WhatsApp groups about the possibility of winning the title, all hopes on that front are now dashed.

However, the 20-time British champion remains active in all competitions.
