Kylian Mbappe shines as PSG stun Bayern Munich to progress to Champions League quarter-finals
Paris Saint-Germain produced a stunning performance to beat Bayern Munich 3-2 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie, securing a 4-3 aggregate win over the defending champions.
Kylian Mbappe once again proved to be the difference maker, scoring two goals to take his tally for the season to 37 in all competitions. Mbappe's first goal came in the 31st minute when he was set up by Neymar, who made a surprise appearance after recovering from an ankle injury that had ruled him out for over a month.
Bayern Munich responded quickly through a stunning strike from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who was deputizing for the injured Robert Lewandowski. However, Mbappe restored PSG's lead just before half-time with a cool finish after a brilliant counter-attack.
The second half saw Bayern Munich dominate possession but fail to create clear-cut chances, with PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas making several key saves to keep his side in the game.
PSG then added a third goal in the 68th minute through Marquinhos, who headed in a Neymar corner. Bayern Munich pulled a goal back in the 86th minute through Thomas Muller, but it proved to be too little, too late for the German giants.
PSG will now face Manchester City in the quarter-finals, with the first leg set to take place on April 6. The French champions will be hoping to go one step further than last season, when they reached the final but were beaten by Bayern Munich.
As for Bayern Munich, their hopes of retaining the Champions League trophy have come to an end, but they will still be among the favorites to win the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal this season.
