The military swoop at Ashaiman was to man-hunt suspects who killed the young soldier - Ghana Armed Forces.

In a press statement released by the Ghana Armed Forces, the operation held within the Ashaiman community was to fish out the unknown criminals who murdered one of their soldiers earlier this week.

“GAF wishes to state categorically that the military operation, which was sanctioned by the Military High Command, was NOT to avenge the killing of the soldier but rather to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime,” GAF stated.

The young murdered soldier who was stationed at Sunyani sought for permission from authorities to pay a visit to his family and for a short course but unfortunately met his untimely death from these unknown criminals at Ashaiman.

However, GAF acknowledged its regret on innocent people who might have been caught and treated badly due to their location at the time.

“GAF however acknowledges that regrettably some innocent persons might have been caught up in the operation and consequently suffered some distress due to the location they found themselves at the time.”

It stated that the operation was purposely targeted at the hideouts of the perpetrators and not on innocent persons.

“The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) also wishes to place on record that the swoop was not targeted at innocent civilians but was an intelligence–led operation conducted on suspected hideouts of criminals and crime-prone areas in the general area,”

The military personnel seized 29 and 57 mini slabs of suspected Indian hemp, amnesia among other forms of illicit drugs as stated.

"During the course of the swoop, the personnel seized 29 slabs and 57 mini slabs of suspected Indian hemp and amnesia among other forms of the narcotics.”

The Ghana Armed Forces urged people who knew about the incident to provide meaningful evidence for the murderers to face the law.
