To convey Japan's distinctive development experiences, JICA will present its inaugural lecture series, "JICA Chair," on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Ghana's top university, the University of Ghana, Legon-Accra. In order to exchange ideas, expertise, and experiences, the event will bring together decision-makers, specialists, professors, business executives, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of civil society groups, and former students who attended Japanese universities.

Japan is regarded as the first nation in the world to modernise from a non-Western foundation to develop a free, democratic, affluent, and peaceful society founded on the rule of law, while retaining a significant amount of its heritage and identity. Japan has extensive expertise in this area and might provide emerging nations with the greatest model or blueprint.

In order to help Japan become a global leader in development studies and therefore contribute to sustainable development, the lecture series intends to share Japan's experiences and lessons learnt through its modernization and development cooperation.

In order to create future leaders for developing nations, JICA in 2018 developed the "JICA Development Studies Program (JICA-DSP)" in partnership with a number of Japanese universities. This programme was created to give students the chance to pursue their chosen academic subjects at Japanese graduate institutions as well as Japanese studies, which examine Japan's experiences with modernization and development cooperation in light of its historical and cultural context.

JICA established the "JICA Chair (JICA Program for Japanese studies)" in cooperation with top institutions in partner countries in an effort to increase the chances for such Japanese studies in partner countries as well.

The JICA Chair's activities include giving brief, in-depth lectures on Japan's development experiences in the disciplines of politics, economics, public administration, law, and other subjects by speakers sent from Japan.

This debut lecture on the topic "Japan International Cooperation Strategy towards Ghana and Africa" would be led by Prof. KATO Hiroshi, Vice-President, the International University of Japan. The event would include updates from former participants who now attend Japanese universities as well as Japanese cultural activities offered by JICA volunteers.
