Everyone wants source(s) of income to earn a living. You engage in something to make money. For some, their belief is to exchange sex for money. In Ghana, people who exchange sex for money are often called 'sex workers', 'hookup girls', 'prostitutes' or 'ashawo'. You may think this is for pleasure and financial fulfilment but it got a dark side you probably don't know.

The Assignment is shown on TV3 every Wednesday and it projects social issues with evidences in a documentary. In one of the documentaries, Stanley Nii Blewu, a journalist at TV3, embarked on a project to know more about the dark side of the local sex trade. In the documentary, sex workers secretly sold used condoms with sperms to people who requested them. Some were bought by cultist for their spiritual activities. According to Stanley's investigation, sperm trade is common in the Upper East, Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
In one of the hotels he visited, the sperm market was ran by a cartel and you have to be a known client or rock solid person before you could buy from these ladies. A condom containing sperm costs 100 Ghana cedis. One of the sperm merchants, Kiki, said she had benefitted from the sperm trade for four years and paid hotel cleaners to supply her with used condoms. She said she had no idea of what exactly they used the sperms for but some pastors also requested them. She is part of a Lucifer kingdom and you can only join the group if you regularly bring used condoms. Kiki mentioned she has a spiritual protection and nobody could harm her.

Stanley continued the journey to Volta region where he visited Torgbe Geyevu (fetish priest) to discover the effects of sperm merchants on people whose sperms were being sold. Torgbe said sperm trade could make men sterile and destroy their destinies. He has sacked over ten people who came to him with sperms for money rituals. This is a precarious venture and the sex workers warned men to discard their used condoms safely if they don't want any problem.
