Akuffo Addo is concerned about a lack of childhood vaccines.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed concern about the country's shortage of some childhood vaccines.
In his State of the Nation address to Parliament on Wednesday, the President stated that if the shortage persists, it will have a negative impact on Ghana's Childhood Immunization Programme, which has been recognized as one of the most successful in the world.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently expressed concern about a steady decline in global measles vaccination coverage due to the focus on COVID-19.
"In order to avoid becoming a part of this global trend, the government has taken steps to ensure that stocks of these vaccines are procured and supplied as an emergency," he said.
The President stated that the Ghana Health Service had devised an elaborate program to catch up on children who had missed their vaccinations as soon as supplies arrived.
He urged all parents and caregivers to ensure that all eligible children receive immunizations once the program begins.
"No child should be denied access to vaccination; mercifully, no child has died as a result of the outbreak," he said.

To avoid disruptions and even death, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) advises the public to plan according to its periodic weather forecasts.
According to officials, paying attention to the daily forecast will help the public adequately prepare for their routine events and dress appropriately.
Mr Joshua Asamoah, a Senior Meteorologist at GMet, stated in an interview with the Ghana News Agency that adhering to daily reports could save lives and properties, particularly in the event of a heavy downpour, which frequently resulted in flooding.
"Ideally, people should be up to date on our updates before starting work. Aside from daily updates, we provide a long-term forecast to serve a segment of the public such as farmers and field workers," he explained.
Mr Asamoah hinted that the GMet was working around the clock next week to release the 2023 seasonal forecast, which would include the major and minor raining seasons.
He stated that the first forecast would cover the southern part of the country from March to May.
The Senior Scientist stated that the forecast for the Northern belt would be released after the forecast for the South to assist farmers in planning for the season.
When asked about the significance of the March 7 downpour, he said it signaled the start of the rainy season this year.
He urged the general public and city officials to desilt their respective drainage systems in order to allow rainwater to flow freely.
"We need to know that flood is always closer to us and we must be prepared for it, especially in the Greater Accra. This is due to our crowded and waterlogged areas. It is a warning to get ready.
He stated that the Agency would notify the public and relevant stakeholders about the volumes and other parameters.
