Mother of a Slain Soldier Speaks Out.

Afia Kyerah, the mother of the 22-year-old soldier whose alleged murder triggered military brutalities in Ashaiman, has described her son's death as excruciatingly painful.

Her son's death has left her devastated, she claims.

She admitted she had no idea her son was visiting Ashaiman while on sick leave from his base in Sunyani, Bono Region.

On Tuesday, March 7, the military brutalized residents of Ashaiman following the death of Sheriff Imoro.

"Sherrif didn't have any friends, he was always with me, some neighbours were always teasing me for turning him into a mummy's boy," Afia Kyerah told a section of the media. I had no idea he was visiting Ashaiman, "I had no idea he'd die this way; his death is so painful; I'm sad and devastated," the mother said.

On Saturday morning, an unknown assailant stabbed to death a 22-year-old soldier with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in Sunyani, Bono Region.

The soldier was said to be on his way back from his girlfriend's house in Taifa, an Ashaiman suburb, to his home in Zongo-Laka, Ashaiman, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The mother of Trooper Sherrif Imoro, a Ghana Armed Forces personnel who was allegedly killed by a mob in Ashaiman, has spoken out for the first time.

Afia Kyerah, speaking to journalists in Accra, expressed her grief over the death of her 22-year-old son.

According to citinewsroom.com, she stated that she was unaware that her son was returning home from camp.

Sherrif, according to Afia Kyerah, had no friends in Ashaiman.

"Sherrif didn't have any friends; he was always with me, some neighbours were always teasing me for turning him into a mummy's boy.

"I had no idea he'd come to Ashaiman, I had no idea he'd die like this, his death is so painful, I'm sad and devastated," she says.

The death of the 22-year-old trooper sparked military brutality in Official Town, an Ashaiman suburb.

In its justification for the military personnel's actions, the Ghana Armed Forces stated that the victim was in Accra from his base in Sunyani to visit his parents.

"Trooper Sherrif, who is stationed in Sunyani, was in Accra on a course and had sought permission to visit his parents in Ashaiman, where he grew up, but was found in a pool of blood in the early hours of Saturday near the Amania Hotel in Ashaiman.

"GAF wishes to state categorically that the military operation, which was sanctioned by the Military High Command, was NOT to avenge the soldier's death, but rather to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous crime," parts of a statement signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, the Director General of Public Relations, read.

However, Ernest Henry Norgbey, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman Constituency, has stated that Sherrif came to visit his girlfriend, who has been detained by the army for questioning.

In Ashaiman, soldiers conduct a swoop.

In the early hours of Tuesday, some soldiers invaded Ashaiman, ostensibly in search of the murderers of their young colleague.
