The Bawku traditional area is a heterogeneous traditional area of Mamprugu made of various tribes with each community founded by a particular tribe who are Chiefs in those communities.
Bawku was not a Paramountcy until the 1930s when it was promoted to a Paramountcy status by the Nayiri Naa Waafu (the 25th King of Mamprugu). The Bawku Naaba at this time was Bawku Naa Bugri Mambora Lobzuri (the 10th Bawku Naaba). Bawku had 10 Chiefs from 1721-1930s before this elevation.
In as much as the entire Bawku traditional area is part and parcel of Mamprugu, the area was uninhabited and different tribes founded different communities after the Mamprusi have founded Bawku in 1721.
This towns were founded by Mamprusi and they are Chiefs in those towns.

5. Teshei
6. Nayoku
7. Sinebaga, etc.
This towns were founded by Kusaasi and they are Chiefs in those towns.
1. Zebila
2. Binaba
3. Kusanaba, etc.
Kulungungu was founded by the Bissa and they are Chiefs there, Kpikpira was founded by Bimoba and they're Chiefs there, Kugri was founded by Mossi and they are Chiefs there, Pusiga is for the clan called Pusigdem who are Mamprusi extraction.
So it's not true that Mamprusi are from the North East region and wants to be Chiefs in the Upper East region. Mamprusi founded Bawku at a time it was uninhabited in 1721 and this explains why the Mamprusi are those living in the heart of Bawku whilst all other tribes lives on the outskirts.
We will soon give the history behind all the communities in the Bawku traditional area and how they were established and the tribes that established them. As said in our opening paragraph, Bawku traditional area is a heterogeneous traditional area of numerous tribes who use to coexist peacefully until 1958 when politicians introduced hatred among this beautiful tribes.
. We can't talk about the Bawku conflict without visiting history, Kusaasi and all the other tribes used to live peacefully before politics was introduced into Bawku which brought about the conflict. If same politics is taken out, the conflict will be resolved amicably.
