After Erik ten Hag's decision, Manchester United will fight Bayern Munich for Harry Kane's transfer.

Erik ten Hag has decided to pursue a summer transfer for Harry Kane, and Manchester United are ready to compete with Bayern Munich to sign the Tottenham talisman.

Manchester United are prepared to compete with Bayern Munich when the race to sign Harry Kane begins at the end of the season.

Kane, 29, will have just one year left on his contract when it expires in the summer and has been linked with a big move after another disappointing season with Tottenham, who were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek.

Erik ten Hag has already stated that he wants to sign an elite No.9 for next season, and previous reports suggested that the Dutchman was interested in Napoli's Victor Osimhen. However, a new report from the Manchester Evening News claims that Kane, not Osimhen, is at the top of United manager Jose Mourinho's wish list ahead of the summer transfer window.

Given that Tottenham are likely to demand a high fee for their talisman, the Red Devils are unlikely to face competition from any of their Premier League rivals in their pursuit of Kane. However, Bayern Munich are big fans of the England captain and will be United's main rival.

Given Kane's desire to win trophies, a move to Munich would be appealing; the German giants are on course to win the Bundesliga for the 11th consecutive year and have advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, like Ten Hag, plans to enter the market in the summer to sign a new striker after the club began the season without a productive No.9. After switching to a 3-4-2-1 formation in recent weeks, Bayern have stuck with former Stoke flop Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as a focal point, but he is not regarded as a long-term option.

Bayern Munich has made no secret of their desire for Kane. Earlier this season, Bayern chief executive Oliver Kahn waxed lyrical about the Spurs striker, hinting that his club would be interested in bringing him abroad.

Despite Bayern's strong interest, board member Uli Hoeness has already stated that the club will not be drawn into a "crazy" bidding war - a stance that would give Manchester United the upper hand if the two clubs did compete for Kane's services. Other potential suitors, such as Paris Saint-Germain, who could come to the table if they lose Kylian Mbappe, could also deter the reigning Bundesliga champions from firming up their interest.

"I think the transfer is totally crazy," Hoeness previously said of a possible nine-figure bid for Kane to German outlet Abendzeitung. "He's a fantastic player, no doubt about it, but these are figures I would never pay as president."

Even though Kane's choice would be to stay in England as he bids to chase down Alan Shearer's Premier League goalscoring record, he did note Bayern's interest back in October when he admitted that the German giants were a "top, top club".
