Several Sekondi-Takoradi citizens have voiced their displeasure with the Takoradi Jubilee Park's present use as a marketplace.

You may remember that the John Agyekum Kuffour-led government built the enormous Jubilee Parks in several regions of the nation to hold ceremonial and national events when Ghana turned 50 in 2007.

To give traders more room to do business, the Takoradi Jubilee Park was temporarily transformed into a commercial center during the COVID-19 epidemic.

The action was also part of measures to stop the sickness from spreading among market vendors and other dealers.

However, several locals have expressed the opinion that it is about time the traders returned to their home countries now that the pandemic has either substantially decreased or no new cases are being reported.

Many of the locals, according to others, were unable to attend the regional commemoration of the nation's 66th anniversary of independence because they were unaware of its location.

While the market ladies were still at Jubilee Park on March 6, we were unaware that the area was commemorating the anniversary of Independence Day. "We just learned that the event was held in Sekondi afterwaafterwardral of they regretted it.

The Divisional Head of the Ahanta Traditional Council, Nana Egya Kwamina XI, urged municipal officials to remove the vendors from Jubilee Park so that it may be used for its intended usage as a venue for official ceremonies and national gatherings.

He believed that rather than allowing the traders to occupy the Jubilee Park, they should be shifted to the Apremdo Market, also known as "Abenbebom," which is popular in his traditional region.

I'm pleading with the Western Region's political leaders to return the park to its intended purpose right away.

There are additional areas at the Apremdo market that can hold the vendors; therefore, I do not see the need to continue doing so, he stated.

The CEO claims that both enterprises exploited tax dollars for a variety of objectives. Thbilee Park is currently acting as a market because the Apremdo market has been abandoned.

The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly has said that the relocation of the market women from Jubilee Park is in the works.
